These 5 Kitchen Counter Trends Will Be Everywhere This Year

Each and every year, designers, architects, contractors, industry pros, and appliance bigwigs take to the bright lights of Las Vegas for the Kitchen and Bathroom Industries Show — or KBIS, to the initiated.
To keep a firm foot ahead of what's trending in the world of kitchens and bathrooms, this year, we decided to tag along.
From darker, moodier marble looks to wow-factor granite and quartz with metallic veining and super sleek edges — the bold and the beautiful are having a moment, and we couldn't be more ready for it.

1. Ice, Ice Baby
Thankfully for the purists among us, white marble tones will never go out of vogue. White stone is the perfect option for the modern home looking to make a statement. Boasting subtler markings and black and grey veining, this style slab is jaw-dropping when set to a larger scale. Our pick of the bunch? White Iceberg, created by NBC host and designer Danny Seo.
Created in collaboration with the team at Wilsonart as part of his Slice of Ice series, this is the ideal counter option for the contemporary kitchen space, without the eye-watering price tag. Based on actual aerial shots of glaciers, Seo's nailed the trend of the minute, serving total drama. We suggest pairing this look with brown leather bar stools.

2. Moody Blues
Another recurring trend on show? Color play, and plenty of it. As design-lovers start to slowly veer away from countertop convention, slabs like Seo's Sapphire Ice — a bold, inky blue stone with jagged, geometric veining — start to gain more momentum.

3. Go For Glitter
Who doesn't love their eggs with a side of glam? While the Golden Dragon Quartz slab by Cambria is not for the faint of heart, the bold, statement-making stripes and metallic veining totally up the ante. If the full floor–to–ceiling blackout feels a little extra, consider a splashback instead. Pare it back with aged brass hardware and minimal pendant lights, for a contemporary edge.

4. Make It Monochrome
While fortune favored the bold this year, there was still plenty to appeal to the more subdued, classic kitchen-lover. Refined white marble counters received a contemporary edit at Bocchi, with a deep-set, matte black farmhouse sink, the only way to wash up.

5. Fully Equipped
If reaching for the knife block or the nearest cutlery drawer feels like a tall order in the kitchen, why not opt for a built-in alternative? The Culinary Center by Franke Kitchen includes all of the essential chef's accessories — from chopping boards to paring knives — embedded into the sleek countertop design. While we're not totally sold on the ins and outs of this one, it would definitely help to minimize the kitchen clutter.
